Muong Thanh Holiday Dien Bien Phu

It's a lovely, peaceful place, and the hotel is very nice for such a remote town. The restaurant serves very good food, with minimarts and other things nearby. Staff don't speak much English, but Google Translate and a friendly attitude worked well. The white taxis waiting at the hotel are a good choice, and getting the drivers' WhatsApp number is invaluable. Taxis can be hard to find around town unless you're at a very popular tourist spot. DBP is lovely and peaceful.

For my short trip to Dien Bien, I think I picked a very good place to stay. Muong Thanh is a lovely hotel, with a clean room and an amazing view from my window. Breakfast was good enough, too. Thanks to Thao at the front desk for recommending such good places to eat and helping me out. I'll definitely come back next time.

The breakfast was good, especially the sugar cane, and I want to give a special mention to Xuan, the young kitchen assistant. The salads and their attractive dressings were really appetizing. The rooms are comfortable and very clean considering this isn't a new building, and I think the staff have done a marvelous job keeping it up. The carpets, though, are old and dusty. Some very inconsiderate guests, like government officials, seem to smoke in their rooms. They should have to pay a cleaning fee for the mess from eating, drinking, and smoking there.

For a 4-star hotel, the quality falls short, even though it's the only 4-star place in Dien Bien. The pool was always closed, and the rooms were very worn. The toilet door was broken, so we couldn't shut it for privacy. The FOM (Hưng) also wasn't very helpful or professional.
