The room was large and clean, with two double beds for four people, plus a refrigerator and wardrobe. The guesthouse is on the city’s main road near Dong Hoi market, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores close by. I checked in at 4 PM, then borrowed the owner’s motorbike to get banh bot loc, a Vietnamese dumpling. The landlady was a bit strict about the price: she’d quoted 250,000 VND for the room, and later said her husband would charge 50,000 VND to take me to the bypass to catch a bus to Dak Lak. The owner, though, was very friendly. The next morning his family rented me a motorbike, and he picked out a good one with a full tank. I visited Dong Hoi market, the Mother Suoi Monument, Thien Cam beach, and Da Nhay beach all in one morning. At noon I paid for the room and asked the owner for a ride to the bypass for my bus back. He charged only 300,000 VND for the room and motorbike rental together, and just 40,000 VND for the long trip from the city center to the bypass. He was very kind.
