Golden Sea HaLong Hotel

The hotel is close to Hon Gai beach, though the seawater there isn't ideal. The area isn't as lively or as well equipped as Bai Chay, but that also means the rooms cost less. The room was clean, if a little small. If you're coming by family car, staying here makes it easier to get around and visit places in Ha Long.

Newly built, with a nice interior and a lovely setting. The price seemed reasonable too.

The room felt cramped, with barely enough space to pass between the two beds. One was a single, so I can't imagine how tight it would be with two double beds. There was also a weird sour smell, and no soundproofing. Kids running in the hallway next door were easy to hear. The air conditioning barely worked. Even set to 16 degrees with the fan on full, the room felt as hot as outside, and the unit was really loud. Staff said the noise would stop after a while =))) If you're here on a hot day in peak season, you might end up leaving to find another room. It's near the beach, but Hon Gai beach is murky and full of trash, so that proximity doesn't help. With the tight space, smell, and useless AC, what is the 1 million VND per night paying for?

The location was pretty good, but choose a sea-view room. The front-facing view is just houses packed together. My double room was already cramped, and adding a love seat made it even less suited to a backpacker like me. The toilet was clean on day one, but they didn't clean it the next day or refill the toothpaste and water, and the sheets weren't changed. The towel was a little dirty, and they charged 50k VND at checkout. Very poor service for the price.
