Southern Hotel

I’ve traveled for years, and this was the worst hotel stay I can remember. We left a day early because of the noise and hard beds, but the trouble over payment was even worse. At checkout I offered to pay, wallet in hand. The clerk said the booking agency had already settled the bill, and kept insisting even when I explained we hadn’t paid. We waited in the lobby about 30 minutes for a taxi with at least three employees nearby, but no one tried to sort it out. An hour later, I got a call asking, “Why you no pay?” I tried to explain, but the caller just repeated the question. More calls and pointless texts followed. At the new hotel, I got a message to call Ms. Ha, the “General Manager” of the Southern hotel. Someone answered and hung up, then did the same when I called back. They texted that an English speaker would call, but no one did, and later asked me to get the new hotel receptionist to interpret. Eventually they came to our hotel after threatening to call the police and, strangely, the US Embassy. We paid the amount we had offered to pay at THEIR hotel nine hours earlier. We never said we wouldn’t pay, and there was no apology or offer of a discount for the stress and inconvenience. The booking itself should have warned me. I reserved three rooms for three adults, but they treated it as six adults, then tried to get me to cancel and change it to one room for three adults. The beds were hard as stone, there was no fridge, and the rowdy guests made noise at all hours, amplified by the cell block walls. It felt one step above what I imagine prison would be like. Why open a hotel if you have no interest in hospitality? The Southern Hotel is run by a sorry bunch of incompetent morons and avaricious hicks. Avoid it like the plague and tell your friends and loved ones. I wish I could give negative stars.
