The Confetti Hotel

We went in low season, when everything was closed, so we rented a motorbike and explored the Vietnamese city and nearby area. The hotel sits between the real vietnamese city and the tourist city, and it was pretty clean. Our door had a problem, but they kindly upgraded us. The bay is beautiful, though knowing what it was like, we wouldn’t have gone. There are so many hotels and western restaurants, so if tourist-built cities aren’t your thing, this place may not suit you.

Our Double Room with Balcony and Sea View was spacious, with a small living area, a good shower, and a sea view. The hotel has a beautiful design. That was about the extent of the positives for us. It’s in a remote area, far from everything, with construction underway and only a few restaurants nearby. It didn’t feel ideal for tourists. The staff seemed inexperienced. We’d emailed ahead to say we wanted a half day boat tour the day after we arrived, but no boat had been booked. After check-in, the concierge kept bringing proposals, making it sound as though we had a tour, then coming back an hour later to say it wasn’t available. We’d have been better off booking ourselves. He also left us in the middle of conversations to answer calls, and tried to open our room with his key before knocking. There was a lot of noise inside the hotel. You could hear everything in the corridors, and the room doors made an annoying alarm sound nearly every time they opened or closed. Breakfast was just okay, with a confusing setup and average food.

That’s the best thing I’ve ever seen.

It’s a newer hotel, fairly clean, and decent value. I’d usually give it at least four stars, but at checkout they charged 50 k for one bottle of water. Who charges for hotel water? It wasn’t in the fridge or with the minibar, just on the counter like complimentary water at every other hotel, apparently.
