Cat Ba Mountain View Homestay

The owner was amazingly friendly and helpful, and even cooked breakfast for us. We felt very welcome. The rooftop view was worth the effort of climbing all those stairs. It was so nice, thanks for the hospitality.

We had a lovely week staying with Quinn & John and would definitely come back. The place is great value, with a clean room, a comfortable bed, and a private clean bathroom with plenty of hot water. There's a pool and pool table, plus lovely bay views from the rooms upstairs. Our bathroom was attached to the mountain, which was a quirky and really cool feature. Our hosts were so nice. They shared lots of information about the area, let us meet their lovely dogs, and made sure everything went smoothly. The homestay is a little outside Cat Ba centre, which also puts it closer to the hospital cave and national park. Town isn't far to walk, or you can hire a moped for 100,000vnd a day, which is very cheap.

The staff were kind and respectful, but the condition of the place was awful. My first room had a toilet dumped out in the yard. I switched rooms, only to find that the air conditioning didn't work and the bathroom, fridge, and carpet were extremely dirty. Then lunch arrived with a burnt insect on my plate. Everything felt dirty and neglected.

We only booked two nights in a bungalow, then ended up staying eleven! Quin, the manager, made us feel right at home, and the welcome from the boss was wonderful too. The pool takes a bit of a climb to reach, but it's worth it. We had that real holiday feeling here. Five stars, and we hope to see you again someday. Take care, love 🫶🏻 Sefana
