We were stranded in Hai Phong because of the typhoon and needed a place for one night, really just six hours. The staff weren't helpful and barely spoke any English. The room was dark and old, and the toilet looked very dirty. There was air conditioning, but no remote, so it was useless. The WiFi worked, though reception didn't tell us about it. We wouldn't recommend this place, even to budget travelers. I'd look elsewhere.

The mattress was very hard, though the room seemed okay and the price looked reasonable when I booked a night in Haiphong after getting stuck there. At checkout, I found that $16 and 310,000d weren't actually the same price. I was told to pay $16, which I didn't have, or accept their conversion rate from dollars to dong, which came to considerably more than 310,000d. They smugly called that the "Vietnamese price." If they'd explained this at check-in, I might not have minded, or I could have gone to a more honest hotel. Instead, they held my passport while the receptionist refused to contact a manager about my complaint that foreigners and Vietnamese should be treated equally. Avoid unless you know what you're getting into. Breakfast is no longer included either.
