The view was amazing and the room looked nice, but I wouldn’t stay here again. At 1,700,000 a night, I expected much better. The pillows were moldy, there was only a sheet and no duvet, and the aircon couldn’t be adjusted to the settings we wanted. It was like a hole in the loft, either too cold or too hot with nothing in between. The shower and elevator both smelled moldy, and the busy street was loud. The sheets smelled of sweat and perfume, as if someone had slept in them. I don’t know if they weren’t washed or were washed only in cold water. We asked for a change, but the replacement sheets didn’t smell clean either. The towels had a strong perfume smell too, though that’s just my preference, I’d rather have no scent or a natural soap smell. The reception area was even hotter than outside, so we took our food to go. Neither of the two phone numbers they gave us worked during our three days there, and we got no reply until I tried a third number. The toilet paper was half used by previous guests, and the kettle was old and rusty. There was also a dead gecko in the fridge, which they cleaned out for us. They replaced the toilet paper and gave us new sheets when I asked. The reception guys were all very nice and helpful, but the hallways and room were dark and grey, which felt a bit depressing. At 300,000 a night, I might have expected these things. At this price, I didn’t.

The staff were so accommodating and attentive, and went out of their way to help with everything we needed. The hotel was beautiful, clean, and amazing. We loved the restaurant too, with delicious food and lots of choices. They arranged transport and a boat tour for us, and rented motorbikes for 24 hours for under $6. Highly recommend!

We spent a week at Quiri hotel. The family run staff were amazing, friendly, and really helpful. Take time to chat with them, you’ll hear about their lives, the country, and the island. They can sort out scooters, tours, rides, and some “secret spots” too. The room was nice, with a comfortable bed, good Wi-Fi, and a nice shower. It’s about 10 minutes from the main hub. Months after our Cat Ba trip, we still think of this place with a lot of warmth and happiness. Jake, thank you for all the advice, for arranging such a great boat tour, and for the delicious fish. The little restaurant attached to the hotel was a highlight, with some of the best food we had on the trip. We also rented scooters there and were very happy with the service. They can arrange laundry and tours too, and the staff gave us great ideas for outings around the island. Our room felt comfortable from the moment we arrived. It was modern, bright, clean, and nicely furnished. The hotel is right in the center of the small town, so everything is walkable. We had a wonderful stay in Cat Ba, and this place really stands out. I’d say it’s one of the best in town and would highly recommend it.
