Gilson Hanoi Hotel

The laundry was the worst part. The hotel lost my clothes and brought back someone else’s. I’d clearly told the staff when I was leaving, and they promised a delivery time, but the clothes were late and didn’t arrive before I had to go. I kept following up with the front desk. At first, staff denied they had my clothes or that they’d returned the wrong ones. Only after I insisted did they suddenly find them. Maybe there was a language barrier, but that didn’t excuse the lack of follow-up or any real resolution. I got no compensation, apology, or proper solution, and had to cover the inconvenience and extra costs myself. I was also concerned about room security. The door lock felt flimsy, and housekeeping came in early one morning even though I’d locked the door, so it didn’t give me real privacy or safety. The walls were paper thin, staff were noisy at 6am, towels were stained, the room was average, and the toilet kept leaking sounds. I also saw staff smoking in the breakfast area. The location wasn’t good, though it was quiet from the bustle outside. Sounds inside the hotel still disturbed me. For a 3-star hotel, the noise, maintenance, hygiene, security, and lack of accountability were unacceptable. I’m not sure why so many reviews are positive. Strongly do not stay here.

We had a great four-night stay. Everyone was professional and friendly, from the front desk and breakfast staff on the 8th floor to the cleaners. The location was good, and I’d definitely stay at the same hotel again. Thank you.

The night receptionist kindly pointed me toward nearby night markets, places to eat, and shops. I was welcomed warmly when I checked in for my three-night stay starting September 6th, and the room was comfortable and clean. The cleaner took care with the room, too. I’d choose this hotel again next time.

The location made getting around easy: the hotel is on a main road where it’s simple to hail a taxi, and Ho Chi Minh Museum and other Hanoi sights are within walking distance. I liked the classy interior and the lounge with its massage chair. My standard double was fairly spacious, with a very comfortable queen bed and extra pillows. The toilet and shower are separated by glass, with a standalone sink, and the toilet area has no door. I arrived after midnight feeling groggy, but the staff member checked me in quickly and handed over the keycard right away. He was also the person who helped at checkout. He spoke good English, suggested local food to try in Hanoi and Sapa, and stayed with me until my Grab car arrived. Breakfast was included, though the choices were limited: toast, some eggs, sausage, and Pho Bo that you could have made for you. I had a pleasant stay.
