The staff are wonderful, the price is low, and the location is good. We stayed twice in different rooms and overlooked a lot because of the cost. In both rooms the AC didn't work, the beds smelled moldy, and the lights sometimes failed, though staff fixed the lights right away each time. One room had a TV that didn't work, while the other had no window and smelled. There was a leak directly above the toilet in one room, and ants by the fridge in another even though we had no food. If you're fussy, I'd avoid it. If you're flexible and want to save money, it's a decent base, and they're good to book a Halong Bay cruise with.

The bathrooms all smelled of sewage, and the place felt poorly maintained. Sheets had stains, while faucets and mirrors showed tartar and water residue. I couldn't tell whether the sheets were changed after the previous guests left. No one was around to help with towels or soap. Many rooms on higher floors were empty, apparently because of low maintenance, and the hotel needs newer amenities. The website photos are old. There are better places to stay, and I do not recommend this one.

The rooms are large, breakfast was good, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. But the place needs a lot of renovation and wasn't clean at all. Our room had no curtains and faced a very noisy street. If you want to sleep, forget it.

We were backpacking through Vietnam and spent two nights here. It was okay for the price, though definitely not luxurious. As far as we could tell, the beds were clean. One morning there was no hot water, and the bathroom light was out for a little while, but we could manage. Fine for a budget stay if your expectations aren't too high.

The person at the counter goes out of his way to make things easy, from helping with Hanoi transport to arranging how to get to your next destination. If you're waiting in the lobby, he'll even make you coffee or cut up some fruit. The rooms are lovely, the staff are wonderful, and the service is great. It's a little more expensive than a hostel, but not by much, and you get a private room and free breakfast. This is my favorite place to stay in Hanoi, and it'll be my first choice whenever I'm back.
