HANZ Hanoi De Maison Grand Hotel

There’s a supermarket across the road with basics, including beer, and the staff are helpful when you ask. Laundry is cheap and quick. The location is great, within walking distance of most things. The rooms don’t really look like the website photos, but they’re clean enough and reasonably comfortable if you just need a bed and shower. Water pressure is great. There’s street noise since it’s on a main road, though you get used to it and it settles down overnight. The Wi-Fi wasn’t very useful on the upper floors but worked fine in the lobby. We could see fireworks from the window, which was a plus. A good cheap base, but not somewhere for a luxury break.

The hotel itself is fine, but take care if you ask for travel advice. They push expensive tours aggressively and don’t stop until you say yes. They ask for the money without explaining the cancellation policy, saying it’s already “booked” and the hotel would be charged. Be careful. Booking your own train or bus tickets will be 10 times less expensive and more authentic.

The bed was very comfy, the rooms were big enough, and the hotel was clean. Everyone working there was kind and friendly. I had a wonderful experience and would definitely choose the same place if I go to HaNoi again.

We booked months ahead and got several messages as they kept changing the hotel’s name. Then, while I was at the airport waiting to board for Hanoi, they WhatsApped to say there was no room and they were sending me to another hotel in Hanoi. They asked me to cancel on Booking.com and lie that I had Covid, or they’d have to charge me. So unprofessional and dodgy. The other hotel was grim: noisy, cold, mold everywhere, broken windows that wouldn’t close or lock, and part of my room was being used to store discarded items. Disgusting service from Hanz Grand Maison. I contacted Booking.com, and they apologized and got me a partial refund, but it didn’t make up for the horrible stay or the anxiety Hanz caused.
