La Passion Classic Hotel

The room was spacious, and they let us leave our bags there when we arrived early. Henry was a big help during our stay and even gave us a parting gift. Breakfast included vegetarian options and porridge, and being Muslim, I appreciated how many halal places were nearby. The spot is right in the heart of Hanoi, though you do hear traffic from the main road. We got in from Sa Pa around 6AM and found the staff asleep in the lobby, so it took a while to get settled.

We found the hotel in a lively area, close to shops and restaurants, with taxis and scooters easy to get. The restaurant team was kind and understanding of our vegan needs. Henry at reception, the hardworking bellboy, and the manager all did a lot to help us, and the rest of the staff were courteous too. Thanks, La Passion Classic, for looking after us. It’s a convenient and comfortable choice.

The rooms were good and the location was great, but I no longer felt safe here. While I was out on a day trip, $820 USD went missing from my suitcase in the room. I accept that leaving it unlocked was my mistake, but I never expected someone with room access to take advantage of that. A bundle of $3,820 had been disturbed, and only $3,000 was left. The hotel confirmed that housekeeping had entered to clean and change towels that day, and CCTV footage also showed the entry. When I reported the theft, management seemed dismissive and defensive of the housekeeping team, with no thorough internal investigation or real support. They told me to file a police report, even though, as a tourist, that could disrupt my travel plans and mean staying in the country indefinitely. It felt like the complexity of the local legal process was being used to avoid taking responsibility. It was deeply disappointing to get no help while distressed, and not to be believed made things worse. If you care about your belongings and expect professional handling of a crisis, I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel.

Ryan really is committed to giving guests a good experience. In his edit, he did his best to deal with my concerns. The people were nice, the location was ideal, and the breakfast spread was good. The room was old-fashioned but clean, and the Wi-Fi was weak, maybe because we were at the end of the hall. Those positives couldn't make up for the awful pillows. They felt like the cheapest ones imaginable and wrecked my neck. Great service, a great spot, and decent food still don't make a sleepless night on a bad pillow okay.
