Maro Hotel

We booked a huge family room for four, with two king beds, a makeshift kitchen, living area, and bathroom. The room was spacious and clean. David, who is usually on the night shift, made the stay even better. He was welcoming, accommodating, knowledgeable, and ready to help, with fluent, friendly English. He's a keeper for the hotel and would do great with any employer. The location is perfect: the street has vendors for quick bites, spas, nail and massage places, hair services, shops, cafes, and restaurants, all within a minute's walk. The lake is two minutes away. A grab ride to the train takes about 10 minutes and costs 50,000 dongs ($2). From fri - sun the old quarters becomes a walking street, so grab cars can't come in. It's only a three-minute walk to get outside the area.

The WiFi failed about 90% of the time, and the hotel was unhelpful and unresponsive when we needed support. We were there during a stressful period when the Middle East conflict caused flight cancellations. A language barrier also came up, though we hadn't had one before. We left after one night of a five-night booking. The hotel is in a great location, and the large front rooms are nice, if a bit tired. But the listing invites guests to relax with a drink in a bar/lounge, and there is no bar or lounge, apparently there never has been one. The restaurant only serves breakfast, and there is no terrace. The small outdoor area is off limits outside breakfast because the staff or owners keep their fierce dog there. There are much better options nearby, and I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

The rooms were good, and the service was excellent. The location was very good too, close to all the places I wanted to visit.

The room's quite small, but it is clean. Everything is close by because the location is so central, and the service is excellent. Lyly at front desk arranged our tours to Halong Bay and Ninh Binh.
