Sunrise Hanoi Hotel

After 24 hours of travel, we arrived tired for our first visit to Hanoi. Our room wasn’t ready, which was fair since we were about five hours early, so we paid for a few hours in another room and tried to sleep. I have MS and was grateful just to have a bed. Later, “our” room looked cleaner, but it wasn’t. I needed more rest, so we stayed a few more hours before I could take in how dirty everything was. The bathroom leak smelled, and we couldn’t stay, so we booked somewhere else and checked out. Luckily, that hotel was great, and our first vacation in three years got a better start. We got a 50% refund because they said they’d held that room especially for us. I don’t envy the next “special guest.” The photos on booking sites make this place look much nicer than it is. It may once have been a nice place to stay, but now there’s dirt, a bathroom leak, and a terrible smell in the halls. The view is of a slum. It’s hard to get a cab, and most Grabs cancel halfway. The balcony plants shown in the photos are half-dead in pots full of cigarette butts. They also rent rooms by the hour and don’t seem to have time to clean properly. There’s no restaurant or top lounge as advertised. If you need to leave luggage, it gets put behind the sofa. Stay away!

Our booking was cancelled on the very day we were supposed to stay, with a sudden message and no proper explanation. We had to scramble to find somewhere else at the last minute, which was really stressful. It was very disappointing and unreliable. If you need to know you have a place to sleep, don’t book here. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I left before spending my last night there. The rooms were old, dusty, and dirty, and I want a peaceful, safe place to sleep. There were also problems with the online reservation and the staff seemed unprofessional. They advertise a lounge and lots of services, then act like you’ve mixed them up with another property when you ask about them. When I showed proof, the woman suddenly couldn’t speak English. I asked them to correct the online listing, but they wanted me to send proof of what I’d said, which made the whole thing feel even more like a scam. They charged me for checking out 11 minutes late, even though I couldn’t find anything written about overtime fees. They present themselves as high value, but that’s only on the surface. Avoid this place.

Tsu at reception made me feel welcome straight away. She was so kind and helpful throughout my stay. Check-in was quick and smooth, which I really appreciated after a long trip. I had a pleasant stay at Sunrise Hanoi Hotel and would definitely recommend it. Great service! 😊
