Thang Long Opera Hotel

The restaurant downstairs was absolutely delicious. I also found the location very convenient, especially with the Hanoi Opera House so close by and its many events. Even though I checked in very late, the staff were kind and helped me through the process. I had a lovely two-night stay.

The extensive breakfast had cold yoghurt kept in a fridge, the only place we stayed that did that. The bacon, fried vegetables, and coffee were cold, which seems standard, so I'd stick to the fresh, hot omelette. Most attractions are within walking distance. The rooms were nice, though the facilities were quite old but okay. Like many Vietnamese hotels, the in-room coffee was sweet and had powdered milk. Bar and reception service was uneven: some staff were lovely and helpful, others quite rude. A little more attention to hot breakfast food, coffee and milk in the room, and friendly help at reception would make this a memorable stay for westerners.

The bathrooms were clean and well kept, and breakfast was quite decent. The location is handy for walking around and looking at a few shops, though with Grab available it didn't feel like a big advantage. Our room's AC seemed to offer only two extremes: 24C was too cold and 25C too warm, so sleep depended on how we adjusted it. At night, minor sounds were distracting, and the room had a bit of a haunted feel.

We stayed from January 1st to 3rd at Thang Long Opera Hotel. It's in a central spot, just a few minutes' walk from the Old Quarter and Walking Street, and the hotel was clean and well-equipped. Lam Dien Restaurant inside was a real plus, with lots of options, especially good vegetarian and macrobiotic dishes at fair prices. After checking out, lunch there is convenient: we fed three people for under 300k VND, much cheaper and easier than room service.
