Tunger Premium Hotel

The staff and location are the best parts of this hotel. Reception is open 247, the team is friendly, speaks decent English, and knows the area well. There’s a convenience store and food stalls across the street, both open 247, and if you don’t mind walking you can reach most tourist spots. The rooms feel poor for a mid-range price. The place is dated, though fortunately there’s an elevator. Our executive room with balcony had old furniture, and the balcony was disappointing, more like a window, with the city view blocked. Ventilation wasn’t good, and there was some mold on the walls and ceiling. Light sleepers may struggle because the street gets really loud and the rooms aren’t soundproof.

Alex, the two Toms, and the room service girls were the highlight of our stay at Tunger. They were so helpful and friendly, and clearly cared about making things enjoyable. The location was convenient too, but the rooms didn’t match what was advertised. The equipment was old, some things were broken, water pooled in the shower, and there were holes in parts of the roof. There’s no proper shared space for a group, and breakfast is off-site. We booked a tour through the hotel. Most of it was organized well, though a mix-up meant our sleeper bus journey happened during the day. That turned out to be an amazing experience. One accommodation in Sapa, Sa Pa retreat condotel, was a different story. It felt unsafe, with visible damage and holes in the walls where wasps were coming in. There were over 98 stairs between the room and the top, which was impractical, so we checked out and moved to another hotel. The staff and location were great, but the facilities and parts of the tour didn’t meet our expectations.

The staff were lovely, and the location was great, but the rooms were very old and even moldy. Ours had no windows and didn’t look like the online photos. At checkout, we were pressured to “give us a 10 star review on google and booking.com.” We couldn’t leave reception until we’d posted a review so they could photograph it for their manager. I felt really uncomfortable.

The rooms are a little small, but that makes sense given the location. I was especially impressed by the service from Tony Nguyen at reception and the other staff. They were courteous, handled our requests on time, and let us leave our bags at the hotel when we had to check out early.
