The rooms are on the small side, but they have modern conveniences and the staff keep them spotless. Kim and the other desk staff were especially helpful and friendly, suggesting things to do and arranging day trips. The free breakfast buffet covered all the food groups, and they were willing to make special orders. It’s a modest hotel on the Old Quarter’s narrow streets, close to the Big Cathedral, restaurants, street vendors, and other tourist services. The excellent service makes it a great value for the money.

Kim was cheerful, supportive, and very helpful. She helped arrange day trips to Ninh Binh and Halong Bay, which made my stay memorable. I spent three lovely nights at this cozy hotel in the center of Old Quarters Hanoi. I was very comfortable here, highly recommend it, and will definitely come back.

The only real plus was the location, near the church on a quiet street. The rooms were run down, the walls had moisture, the amenities weren’t properly maintained, and cleanliness seemed questionable. The photos would disappoint anyone expecting them to be accurate. This hostel might suit solo travelers or backpackers who care only about location. If you want basic comfort, pay a bit more and stay somewhere else. We booked the family room through Agoda and arrived early at 6AM. A grumpy receptionist was asleep on the sofa and told us to return at 12pm for check-in. At noon, the lady receptionist said to come back at 2pm. When we returned, the same woman said there had been a “mistake” and our family room had been given to another 🇮🇳 family. Since we were staying one night, she apparently thought two rooms would be acceptable instead of one. The first option was one room at the back and another with NO window on different floors, which I rejected. Then she somehow found another room with a window. After I posted, a number of five-star reviews from Vietnamese people appeared and pushed the rating up to four stars, nine on Agoda?!!! Let’s be honest, local Vietnamese people wouldn’t stay there!

Our three-person group used the hotel as a stop during our travels, and the 13-year-old with us loved it. The rooms were very clean and tidied every day. The staff treated us well, and I think taking time to talk with them helped us get along so nicely. I’ve read some really harsh reviews about the Victory, which made me a bit sad. The night porter does sleep on the sofa, though perhaps that isn’t his only job. It’s a budget hotel that could use some paint, but if you want a clean room and a good night’s sleep, it works well.
