Muong Thanh Grand Sai Gon Centre Hotel

The hotel feels a bit worn, but the atmosphere was pleasant and we enjoyed our stay, especially because the staff were so welcoming. They were friendly and helpful, even offering to guide our family across the busy road during rush hour. We’re grateful for that kindness. The location is excellent in this lively city. Breakfast was decent, while dinner was average.

The room hadn’t been cleaned at all when I checked in after 10 PM. Used items from previous guests were still there, which is a serious hygiene problem and completely unacceptable. I’d told the hotel beforehand that the registered guest would be staying at another hotel and a different companion would stay in the room. Still, the night receptionist, who seemed poorly informed and unprofessional, wouldn’t let my guest upstairs and required an unreasonable extra 300,000 VND per night. The service was poor, the attitude rigid, and there was no help. One of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. Not worthy of the Muong Thanh name, and I strongly don’t recommend it.

The room was clean, and the housekeeping staff were polite and respectful. I often saw them take off their shoes before cleaning and vacuum regularly. Beds were hard, though the pillows were nice. The room also had a constant exhaust-like smell, as if an engine were running somewhere, and I couldn’t work out where it came from. The water ran slowly. The toilet flush was weak, and it took around five minutes for the shower water to get hot. Breakfast was okay, with some variety but not much. The location is great, within walking distance of tourist spots like The Saigon Zoo. We stayed six nights in a VIP room. The front desk staff followed management’s rules and nothing beyond that, so it wasn’t a pleasant experience. When we asked to check out an hour late after our six-night stay, they wanted 30% of the room rate, with no exceptions. Evening staff weren’t friendly. The hotel’s four-star rating is questionable. It may have been a four-star place 15 years ago, but it has deteriorated.

We had a very good three-night stay as part of a group tour of Indochina. Our early flight meant we arrived well before the room was ready, but reception kept our bags safe and let us spend time chatting in the lobby, coffee shop and bar. The hotel is in the city centre, near the American, French and British consulates, with shops, restaurants and sights all within walking distance. Even so, it was quiet at night. Our room was a good size and had what we needed. The AC worked well without being too loud, and the walk-in shower had good pressure and reliable hot water. We couldn’t get the hand attachment to work. The room and bathroom were cleaned and the sheets changed daily, which we hadn’t expected but appreciated. Breakfast on the third floor had plenty of seating and a range of options, including live Pho and Omlette stations. The fruit and sweets selection was a little meagre, but the coffee was excellent. We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel or have time to use the pool and gym on the 11th floor. Thanks, Muong Thahn Grand Saigon Centre hotel.
