Rex Hotel

The rooms were classy and well kept, and the location made getting around easy. Breakfast was a real highlight, with excellent quality food. I found the restaurant meals quite expensive, so I ate elsewhere each day. The staff were warm and welcoming, much like the honest, friendly Vietnamese people I met. I had a great stay at Rex Hotel and would recommend experiencing it.

The gym had plenty of equipment and space, but it was so hot it felt like exercising in a hot yoga room. In our room the air conditioning made odd noises overnight, and the shower's hot water was so forceful that setting a comfortable temperature was difficult. The biggest frustration was the old fashioned lighting panel: we spent half an hour trying to turn one light off, which was especially unwelcome after arriving at 1am. The hotel has a nice vintage feel and a great location, and we thought it was pretty good for our two nights. But for a “5-star” hotel, some things need updating. We enjoyed our hotels in Hanoi and Hoi A more.

The service was fantastic, and breakfast was great. The coffee was the best I tried in Vietnam. The hotel has an amazing location and all the amenities were there, but the older style is very much reflected in the rooms, which felt like someone's grandma decorated them. I'd update the room decor, replace the little shower bottles with pumps, and get a more modern TV. Still, I'd recommend staying here.

The staff made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived, and were attentive whenever we needed help. Rex Hotel has a classic feel alongside modern comfort, and being in the center of Saigon meant shops, restaurants, and major sights were all close by, many an easy walk. It's a convenient, comfortable place to stay if you want to be in the middle of the city's energy.
