Rosa May Hotel

This felt like a one-star hotel, and I strongly suggest choosing somewhere else unless you have no other option, as I did. During my short stay of a few hours, the front desk tried to upsell me several times, including moving me to a hotel far from where I needed to go the next day, plus other services that aren’t appropriate to post here. The room was small and dated, with bugs crawling around and a toilet that didn’t work. Hot water took ages, the AC was weak, and breakfast was very poor quality.

I was ready to book on the spot, but left disappointed by the lack of clarity and professionalism. The price at the desk was a little higher than online, which I understood. But when I asked about the room type, they said online bookings would automatically get a room without windows, while booking directly meant a room with a window, even though the online photos suggested otherwise. The explanation kept changing when I asked about it. Then they said the hotel was “very full,” although they had just confirmed availability. The staff member was dismissive and took a phone call in the middle of our conversation, so I decided not to book.

The central location made it easy to get to lots of shops and attractions, and breakfast had a decent selection. I enjoyed what was available, though there weren’t many Western options beyond fried eggs, fruit, and bread. My room was clean, but the standard room had no window, something I wish I’d known before booking. There was no hook in the bathroom for towels, and the water in the room wasn’t complimentary. Since it’s a small hotel, noise carries easily. A family came back loudly at 10 pm and woke me, so quiet reminder signs, perhaps from 9 pm to 6 am, would help. Still, it was a good stay.

The rooms are modern and clean, and the staff are professional and speak English. It’s very good value for money. They even went to the trouble of retrieving my lost celfone from the police and returning it to me.
