The owner was so pleasant and made everything feel welcoming and personal. Breakfast was fresh, tasty, and well prepared, though at 150,000 VND / ~€5 it cost a little more than elsewhere. The dining room is elegantly furnished, with comfortable chairs and a wall of black-and-white photos showing the late Imperial family and rural life. My suite was stunning and spotless, with beautiful decor, hardwood furniture, a huge comfortable bed, and the best pillows I've had in ages. There was plenty of hot water, and the details felt carefully considered. For once, the website photos didn't do the room justice. Ben Thanh Boutique Hotel is tucked into a narrow, tall Vietnamese building on a quiet side street in Ho Chi Minh City, so it felt much more peaceful than many other places I've visited in Vietnam. I absolutely loved staying here and can't recommend this gem enough.

The WiFi wasn't working when we arrived, and despite the staff trying to connect us from several rooms and options, we couldn't get it sorted during our short stay. I run an online business and a farm, so I need reliable internet around the clock for customer service and emergencies. My travel companion's phone was locked, which meant she couldn't get a local SIM or eSIM. I understand that internet repairs can take time in many places, even in Guam, where it can sometimes take months. The owner was polite and understanding, and kindly offered to refund us for the days we had to leave early. I really appreciated that. No hard feelings, it was just a practical need for constant connectivity that made us change hotels. I enjoyed the time I spent at Ben Thanh Boutique Hotel and wish we'd been able to stay longer. The owner is a very sweet and polite lady, and the staff were kind and welcoming. I loved the antique artwork and classic old architecture, which are exactly my style. It's ideally located near Ben Thanh Market, shopping, nightlife, and lots of great places to eat. The nightlife and market nearby are bustling and fantastic too. I'm an American from Guam visiting Vietnam for the first time, and I absolutely love this incredible country. I'd happily recommend Ben Thanh Boutique to anyone who can manage without constant WiFi. It's a lovely, charming place with so much character. Thank you for the warm hospitality, I hope to return someday. Safe travels to everyone heading to Vietnam, it's truly special! 🇻🇳

The hosts made us feel welcome and were really helpful. Our room was spotless, with fresh towels every day, and breakfast was delicious. It’s an easy walk to the main sights, and the big market is very close. A great spot for a short stay in HCMC. I’d happily recommend it.

The location was good, but I barely slept. The room was so dark and spooky, and my cupboard kept squeaking on its own whenever I turned the light off. I could hear someone moving furniture downstairs around 1 a.m., then a neighbor arrived at about 2. The room also smelled bad. Such a nightmare.

We were traveling in Vietnam and Cambodia for three weeks, and this was the worst place we stayed. The bed was clean, but the rest of the room was filthy in plenty of places, and the reception and dining room had a strong mothball smell. Our city view was just a very dirty window facing a building two meters away. The bathroom and toilet had no ventilation and were semi-open to the living area. There was even an old tea bag in the kettle. One table lamp had a cut cord, and the power points wouldn’t hold our chargers. We considered leaving, but since we’d arrived in the afternoon, we decided to stick it out for the two nights. At reception the next day, we met a couple checking out right after they arrived because their room wasn’t what they’d booked or expected. We’d both relied on the good reviews when booking and wondered where they came from. This definitely wasn’t a boutique stay.
