Hang Mua Family Homestay

The best part for us was the view from our bungalow, with Dragon Mountain right there and ducks visible in the swampy patch behind it. That area does bring mosquitoes, so bring repellent and don’t leave the bedroom door open for long. We also loved the corner location on the property, with plants along the path giving us a little extra privacy. It’s only about a two-minute walk to the entrance of Ninh Binh’s main attractions. For the price, our own bungalow was surprisingly nice: the property feels fairly new, and the pool and shared area are beautiful. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and it had the usual amenities. The mini-fridge wasn’t plugged in, though we eat out anyway, so it didn’t matter much. We had a bit of trouble with the AC, but the room also had a fan.

We didn’t stay in the rooms, but the location near Dragon Hill is really handy. During Tet Holiday, we stopped at a place on that street to get food and the family celebrating their tradition at this Homestay welcomed us warmly and made delicious Banh Mi. They even brought us into their family celebration a little. It’s one of my favorite memories from Vietnam. Go for the food and lovely service. Happy Lunar New Year!

I’d avoid booking this. When we arrived, the hotel said the Agoda listing wasn’t theirs. They also didn’t recognize the phone number on Google Maps, although it’s the same one shown on Agoda. The person who answered that number said he no longer worked with the homestay. The actual owner told us they didn’t know him and had no idea who was posting the Agoda listing. That makes it seem he isn’t the owner of the Google Maps place either, which is odd since that listing has been there a long time. Something feels very suspicious, and I don’t think we’ve been told the whole story. Agoda will refund the money, but the whole situation still feels fishy.

The couple looking after the property were really sweet and accommodating, and the views are gorgeous. Hang Mua caves are just steps away, which makes the location very convenient. Breakfast is cooked to order. It’s simple but tasty, with choices ranging from noodle soup to pancakes, fruit, toast and eggs. The rooms are dated, but they have everything you need.
