The little things made our stay at Backhome in Hoi An feel special. When we left, they even gave us takeaway coffees for the journey, and the atmosphere was so warm. The team were some of the kindest, most helpful people we met while travelling. They took great care of us and gave us a heads-up about a local scammer nearby, which we really appreciated. We were also surprised by how much the place had improved. It had recently shifted from more of a hostel setup to a hotel-style stay, and the rooms and experience were much better than we expected. We’d absolutely stay again.

The breakfast was a big highlight, with lots of colourful choices, especially vegetables, salad and sauces. The focus is on Vietnamese food rather than the usual Western toast, butter, jam and sausage. Everything was clean, tidy and well maintained, from the rooms, beds and bathrooms to the cosy lobby and lounge. The team were super friendly and helpful, and the service felt top-notch. The hostel is on a quiet, romantic side street, away from the lively, sometimes crowded district, though all its restaurants, cafés, bars, shops and food places are just a few minutes away on foot. As a European woman, I felt comfortable and very safe, even more than in Germany or the EU. I’m completely happy with my stay and would recommend it to travellers who appreciate hostels, good service and this kind of value for money. (Miriam)

The staff were super friendly, and they let us check in early even though we hadn’t mentioned it beforehand. They also helped us book sleeper buses for our next stop. The hostel is very central, about a 10-minute walk from the tourist area and main sights. Each bed has a curtain, power outlet, light and shelf, and the other facilities were clean. Breakfast is all you can eat, tasty and varied, with a different menu each day. Free drinking water is provided, though it tastes a little chlorinated. We paid less than 5 euros a night, so I really loved the location, facilities and friendly service for that price.

We rented bikes through the hostel, got a great tailor recommendation, and had a fun cooking and coconut boat tour they suggested. The location was great, close enough to walk into the old town, and we enjoyed our three-night stay. The rooms were clean, with good mattresses, and staff cleaned the bathrooms, rooms and floors every day. Breakfast was okay, and included. The fourth floor felt a bit damp, but maybe that’s just how parts of Vietnam are. Good service for the price, and I’d recommend staying here.
