Golden River Hotel

The rooms aren’t insulated, so there was a lot of noise at night from nearby pubs and bars. The air conditioner ran all night, but the room stayed hot, and I had to move to a hotel in a quieter area. Customer service needs improvement too. The one exception was the woman at reception in the mornings, who was friendly, understanding, and nice. I gave it three stars because they’re trying their best to improve the place.

“Not what was expected.” I stayed four nights and wouldn’t recommend it, even though the location was OK. The Agoda listing was misleading. The hotel may have been drawn by an architect, but apart from the color the picture looked little like the actual building, which isn’t on a corner. It’s three floors with no lift. The rooms were dated, with peeling wallpaper and bathrooms needing a revamp. The photos seemed to use wide-angle lenses, since the rooms are much smaller in person. There were no soap trays in the shower, little space for toiletries on the vanity, and no towel racks. In the room there was no luggage rack, just one small wardrobe, and no safe. The fridge didn’t work, and it took two replacements to get one that did. There was no inside locking chain on the door. The included breakfast was abysmal: warm fruit juice and very few dishes.

Breakfast had only a handful of choices, but the food tasted good. One male staff member was particularly attentive to guests during the meal. My room was tidy and clean, though water dripping from the ceiling was inconvenient. The Hoi An Golden River Hotel is a three-storey building in the center of Hoi An Ancient Town.

The staff, especially at the front desk and breakfast, were friendly and attentive. The problem was a very noisy nearby bar, the cowboy bar, I guess, playing terrible music until 4am. I had to move from the 3rd floor to the 2nd.
