Cherry Hotel Hue

The reception staff sat with us when we arrived and pointed out different places, without trying to sell us tours. Breakfast had both Asian and Western options, including banana pancakes. Our room was a good size and really clean, with a super comfortable bed and down feather duvet. The shower pressure was great and the water stayed hot. The tagline says ‘Cosy like your home’, and that’s exactly how it felt. If you’re coming to Hue, I’d stay here.

Laundry prices are hard to beat, and the staff are super nice and professional. The Cherry Hotel is cozy, clean, and well priced. Breakfast costs extra and was pretty forgettable with so many other food options around, though it is available.

I booked and paid through hotels.com after seeing the hotel listed on the usual booking sites with a special promotion price. When I arrived, reception was empty. I waited ten minutes, called repeatedly, and could hear the phone ringing, but nobody answered. I called out too, with no response. After looking around, I saw they advertised a coffee shop on the roof and took the lift up. An elderly woman was doing laundry there. She didn’t speak English, so I used a translation app to explain I had a booking and no one was at reception. She left with the laundry, and I went back down, sweating in the heat. I turned on the AC with a remote and waited. Eventually another woman came and handed me a mobile phone. The man on the phone asked what I was doing in his hotel. I said I had a confirmed booking through hotels.com, possibly received as an Agoda booking. He denied it, said they were closed, and called me a f***ing liar. I told him I’d paid and had the confirmation number. He repeated that they were closed, called me a liar again, and told me to get out because I’d gone upstairs and turned on the AC. I left. Now I’m struggling to get my money back because the booking was non-refundable. His attitude was unbelievable, abusive, and totally unprofessional. It seems he had closed the hotel without cancelling its listings on booking sites. I wasted a lot of time and sweat there. It took hours to find another hotel, and getting my money back may take weeks. If you think this could be a fake review, check the many other reviews I’ve written here, mostly positive. I’m an experienced traveler and a respected reviewer on this site. I’d strongly advise against booking this hotel, no matter how good the deal looks.

It’s set back from the main road, so the rooms stay quiet. For just a few dollars more than nearby hostels, you get modern, clean rooms and breakfast included. Scooters and tours can also be arranged right at the hotel. Great value.
