Maison Vu Tri Vien

Breakfast was fresh every day, and they were very flexible with the accommodation. We also got lots of help with bus tickets. This is a family homestay in a great spot in the middle of old town, close to the Cytadele, with everything you need around. The house is set back on a street, so it's really quiet, and the roof view is amazing.

Queyn is a kind and charming hostess, and a wonderful cook. We were lucky to have her make dinner for us one evening, and the breakfasts were great too. The homestay is very good value and comfortable, in an interesting part of town, though it's quite a long way from Hue's tourist area. Don't miss Menu Malisa for lunch or dinner. One caveat: we wouldn't recommend the adjoining rooms for a family traveling together. The other bedrooms are bigger and nicer.

The price included a free traditional Vietnamese dinner, which was really nice. But on our last night we saw a cockroach in the room. The owners killed it, but it still spoiled the night for us. The building is old and doesn't seem very well maintained.

Duc was a very accommodating and helpful host, happy to share local food and sightseeing tips. The breakfast was stellar, and we even tried what we thought was the best bun bò in town. The house has some surprising fireplaces throughout, which I haven't seen much in Vietnam. The location makes it easy to explore the old imperial citadel and see everyday life inside a gigantic fortified city. Our room was clean and comfortable. I saw reviews mentioning bathroom mold. There was a little, but no more than I've seen elsewhere, and it felt clean enough for us even with a toddler.
