Poetic Hue Hotel

We booked through a booking platform but were moved to another hotel. Apparently, the owner has several hotels, and up to that point things were fine. The replacement room was nothing like the one we’d booked. It was dirty, but the host still refused to offer a discount after we pointed that out. These hotels are filthy, and the owner is dishonest. Don’t book here.

For a night or two in Hue, this is a decent place, though probably not suited to a longer stay. It’s in a quiet side street near what seems to be Hue’s loudest party street, but we couldn’t hear any noise. The staff were willing to help and handled our small requests. The room matched its Booking description and was generally well cleaned, with clean bed linen, a comfortable mattress, and a small balcony. The furniture could use repairs or updating, and there was a small leak in the bathroom. The room had a useful fridge, but apparently no kettle, which we didn’t need anyway. A simple breakfast was included. The reception also had information about excursions and motorbike rentals at reasonable prices. Staff can apparently help arrange those, though we didn’t use either service. Despite being called a hostel, it’s more like a budget hotel, and it may have seen better days. It has two pools we didn’t get to use during our one-night stay: a small one upstairs on the top floor, where there’s also a sauna for an extra fee, and a larger one downstairs by the restaurant. That pool has a very low ceiling and is probably more suitable for children.

We got in late, soaked from spending the day out in the rain, so that hot shower was very welcome. The room was nice, with a comfy bed and a good wardrobe for hanging clothes. The staff were lovely and made us feel at home. We also played pool and cards upstairs. The location is handy for lots of cafes and restaurants, and the hotel’s attached restaurant served several things we tried, all tasty.

We stayed five nights as an older couple and would recommend this for anyone on a budget. For $20 Aud a night, we got a choice of three breakfasts, friendly staff, and a clean, large room with plenty of storage, a TV, a comfortable bed, a great shower, and air conditioning. It’s a 2 star hostel /hotel, so the room is older in style. There’s a billiards table and jacuzzi on the 5th floor, plus a pool downstairs in a quirky spot. Though it’s in the heart of Bar street, it sits in a quiet alley with other homestays and feels very safe to walk around. The restaurant on site has very cheap, tasty food.
