The room was a nice surprise after a pretty odd arrival. We got there from the airport around 9 am, but they wouldn’t check us in before 2 pm because, they said, those were the rules. By noon we were losing patience, so we paid 20 dollars and they let us in right away. They also bargained with us over a room with a balcony. 😁 It was hard to communicate with the staff without Vietnamese. We had to use a translator on a phone, with no other option. The entrance area was dug up, and I was surprised by how tiny the reception was, though I later realized this is common in many Vietnamese hotels. The room had a large bathroom, a kettle, a new hair dryer, a safe in the closet, and a new air conditioner. They brought new slippers the next day. There was one Russian TV channel. From the balcony, which had just one wicker chair, you could see a bit of the sea. 🌅 The hotel’s location was excellent, less than five minutes from a great beach. The sun loungers got cheaper the farther you went toward Lotus, though we preferred the ones near Gorky Park. We also loved the nearby cafe Tuan and went there just for lunch. The tuna was especially tasty. 🦀🐟 There were power and internet interruptions. Housekeeping meant emptying the trash, changing towels, making the bed, and giving the floor a quick wipe. They didn’t clean under the beds or other hard-to-reach spots, probably since the hotel opened. 😂 We’re used to that, and cleaning in five-star hotels isn’t any better, especially in Asia. Breakfast was unusual, served in a very small dining room on the ninth floor. There was enough to eat, but the selection was a bit meager. If you arrived later, they would pour more boiling water into coffee that had already been topped up about ten times. I went back and forth between a 3 and a 4, but I’m definitely giving it a 3.

After two days at the neighboring Cozy Hotel, where we had room 105, we were moved to a balcony suite with a sea view at Hanka Star Hotel. They didn’t charge extra, which made up for the water problem that kept us from getting the basic room we booked. We were in room 502 there. I’m giving it four stars because the power went out several times, and we had to leave the room to switch the outlet back on in the landing. Breakfast was just so-so, though we didn’t eat it. The hotel was decent and I’d recommend it. For trips, ALFA TOURS is 10 meters from Hanka Star Hotel, facing the sea on the Paris side. Their excursions cost about half what the hotel guides charge, and those guides only show up on the second day after check-in. Don’t listen to them. Thanks to Vasya and Ira at Alpha Tour for their help. Batyr was the best tour guide in Nha Trang for us, the tour with him was simply wow.

The location is handy, with shops and bus stops within walking distance, and it’s a 30-40 minute drive from the airport. We weren’t checked in until 2:00 PM. At first we got a terrible second-floor room overlooking a garbage dump. Three days later we were moved to a better room with a balcony, but you have to follow up every day or they seem to forget. The staff spoke only Vietnamese, so we used a translator. The room had a kettle, hairdryer, cups and saucers, and a safe in the closet, though the safe wasn’t fixed in place and could easily be carried off. There were no shelves in the closet. Bring your own tea if you drink it, since none was provided. Breakfast was the same each day: rice, noodles, vegetables, sausages or meat, cucumbers, tomatoes, pho soup, watermelon, passion fruit, cookies, bread, jams, sauces, tea, and coffee. It’s January 30th and we’re still at the hotel.

Breakfast comes as a buffet, and the room rates are reasonable. The hotel is easy to find and only a few minutes on foot from the beach.
