Lucky Sun Hotel

The reception staff were amazing. They helped us book tours at the last minute and arranged taxis or other transport, and I especially want to commend them for that service. Lucky Sun is just off the main Esplanade, so there’s no traffic noise. We stayed for three nights just before Christmas. It’s at the southern end, but the main shopping district and ATMs are an easy walk or taxi ride away. Our Deluxe room was on the 14th floor, with a sea view and one king bed plus a king single for the three adults in my group. It was tidy, air conditioned, and made up daily, with free bottled water for each guest. Breakfast was included, and there’s a basic gym and a nice pool on the 23rd floor, with seating around it. The pool is about 8/4m. The TV gets all channels. The handheld shower in the bath felt a bit odd, but the room was clean and great for the price. I’d highly recommend Lucky Sun Hotel and would absolutely stay again.

The free breakfast was better than average, which was a nice surprise, but they stop serving at exactly 9 am even when the seats are full. Leaving the food out a little longer would let people finish eating instead of watching it get cleared away. The breakfast window should be 7-10, not 6-9. The rooms have heavy chairs that scrape loudly across the floor. Felt pads would help, since you can hear it clearly when other guests move furniture. The shower curtain had mold on it, which was genuinely unpleasant. The pool area is a bit strange, though the view is good. Charging extra to use the sauna and steam room feels ridiculous when there are so many nearby hotels with better inclusions. Do better.

We spent 30 days there in December 2025 and had a great time. It’s in a quiet corner, close to lots of restaurant options. The room was great, with a comfortable bed, though the shower water never got very hot and stayed lukewarm. The breakfast buffet lets you choose what and how much you want. I had to ask almost every day for the coffee to be reheated because it was always lukewarm. Local people will drink it cold. The girls at breakfast were easily the best part of the service, always kind, smiling, and ready to help. Service overall was okay, but could definitely improve. We didn’t meet any manager during our 30 days. The pool is great if you don’t mind cooler water. It’s under a roof, so it doesn’t warm up, but it’s still fine for swimming and has a great beach view. With more active management, this hotel could be really great.

I slept extremely well here. The hotel is set back from the road, so with the window closed it’s quiet, and the room doesn’t get stuffy even with the air conditioning off. I think that may be due to indirect airflow through the AC shaft and gaps around the door. The mattresses are very comfortable. I especially liked the covered pool, which is cool, clean, and usable in any weather. The room cleanliness is a joke. The cleaning staff seem to have little work ethic, no eye for dirt, and no training in cleaning. It’s hard to believe how management runs the place, since they seem to have no idea what a 4-star standard means. Even Vietnamese middle class guests stay here, so why accept such a low standard? The rooms are priced at a 4-star level, which is expensive for Vietnamese people. In some cases, the filth is downright disgusting. Breakfast choices are extremely limited, with practically no fruit, no porridge, and nothing for vegetarians. The coffee is awful. The heavy room chairs squeak harshly when moved, and the noise is unbearable at night or very early in the morning. Felt pads on the chair legs would prevent it.
