Nhi Phi Hotel

The location was great, just a short walk from the beach, restaurants, bars and shops. I hadn't expected much from a three-star hotel, but the place far exceeded those expectations. The room was extremely clean, the pool was well maintained, and the staff went above and beyond. Calling it only a three-star hotel seems very modest. The restaurant host was always smiling and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know guests. Even when I asked the front desk a simple question, they answered with a smile and didn't get frustrated.

The first day's breakfast was good, but the next day there were few choices and much of the food was dried out. The coffee and tea were watered down too. The hotel lost power three times within a few hours last night, so the barely working AC shut off. Half the light bulbs were burned out, and the bathroom vent and AC don't work. The room smelled moldy, and my wife had a headache all night because of it. The Wi-Fi wouldn't connect for a few hours, and when it did, it was slow. The room appeared clean, and the architectural design was a little strange, even for Vietnam. I'm sure the hotel has seen better days. I'm willing to give it another chance, but there are probably better hotels with things more in order.

The food was a real highlight, both the quality and the portions. Breakfast was buffet style, and they served meals in the afternoon and evening too. It’s also only about a five-minute walk to the beach. The downside was traffic noise from the road outside, since the doors don’t block sound well.

There are shops right outside, and the beach is very close. The rooftop pool is a decent size, and I had it to myself for hours on my first day. My room was huge, with a double bed that could probably fit three people and a bathtub in the bathroom. It can get loud inside the hotel. The rooms don’t block hallway noise well, and one morning I woke up to kids screaming in the hall. Breakfast wasn’t great for a picky eater, especially a vegetarian, since a lot of the food had meat in it. There were pancakes on the first morning, which I liked, but the menu changed each day. Housekeeping came by while I was in the room both days. They tried around 10 on the first day and didn’t return, so I asked reception, and it had been cleaned by the time I got back. The next day they knocked around 2:30. I found the cleaners by the elevator and told them I’d left. It’s a good spot if you’re catching a bus elsewhere in Vietnam. The stop is right outside, and the bus company’s office is in the same building. For about €24/$30 a night in March, I’d stay again.
