Mui Ne is so overpriced for food, drinks, services, and places to stay. If I come back, I'd think about staying at Phuong Nhung Hotel a third time because, for the nightly tariff, it's decent value. It's not without faults, and parts of it feel old and dated, but it's reasonably comfortable and functional for a few nights. It was ideal for me because it's pet friendly and doesn't charge extra for that. My second stay was in an older poolside room. It was spacious but dated. The room was air-conditioned, and the old, rather dirty-looking fridge didn't work. The owner or manager replaced it quickly when I reported it. On the second night the shower tap handle broke. I told a staff member that night, but it was too late to fix. They said it would be repaired the next day, but a communication problem between staff meant it wasn't. On the third day they installed a whole new shower system. Until then, I had to operate it with pliers. Management or housekeeping should be doing more proactive checks and maintenance. Some lights in the room didn't work, the mattress was worn and a little lumpy in places without enough support, though at least it wasn't rock hard. TV reception was very poor, so most channels were hard to watch and frustrating. Lights around the pool and on each room's porch stay on all night. With the poor curtains, light came into the room and could disturb anyone who needs darkness to sleep. The room had a bedside table with drawers and a lamp, a wardrobe with doors that didn't shut properly, and a large desk with a wooden chair. The kettle, complimentary water and coffee were on the desk. There was also a wall-mounted fan. These things were old, dusty, or a bit dirty, but acceptable for what I paid, roughly 375k per night. The private bathroom was spacious and mostly functional, with a washbasin and mirror, toilet, open-style shower, towel rack and complimentary toiletries. The shower tap was the exception, and the hot water was only a little hotter than warm, which was a slight letdown but enough to wash and get clean. The hotel sits off the main street along a local alley, which gives it a quiet, semi-secluded feel. It's about a 10-minute stroll to the beach. There's a gated entrance with enough parking for several cars and many motorbikes, though most of it is uncovered apart from a few large sun umbrellas. A large, clean pool has a small covered bar nearby, which also serves as reception. The drinks selection is limited. A few old wooden sun loungers with umbrellas sit by the pool. There are two accommodation blocks, the older one around the pool and the newer one set back in a garden. The garden is partly overgrown and could be made more attractive. Wifi is available across the property, though I sometimes had a weak or disconnected signal. The staff were all friendly and helpful, but their English was limited. The owner speaks fairly good English, though he isn't always on site.

We saw the huge pool in the middle and started recommending the place to several friends. Unfortunately, one friend ended up staying there for two long nights. The owner or caretaker locked the gate at 11pm, so those nights had to end early. If you came back even a few minutes late and woke him, he'd greet you with a lot of Vietnamese compliments that sounded exactly like what they were. Don't. Please don't.

I had a terrible stay. The place looks relaxing until you check in, then the owner is angry and shouting at people all the time. I left on the second day. I also forgot my documents, including my passport and TRC, and the owner held onto them in a hostile way even though I had paid for the service. He wasn't happy with the amount we'd initially agreed on and wanted much more. He was also angry that I was leaving earlier than agreed. I went to the police, and he lied to them about the payment. Luckily I could prove it because I'd paid by bank transfer. He also told them he wasn't in town, even though he was having a barbecue with family and friends. He told me to come back the next day and said he'd deal with it then. I was extremely stressed about my passport and couldn't just agree to that. Eventually the police came. In front of them, he made up a bill for me, I paid it, and he gave me my documents. By then I didn't care about the money. I was worried he might destroy the documents or fake the situation and claim he didn't have them at all. He's a bad person who doesn't know how to treat people decently. I strongly recommend everyone stay away, even if it's free.

The beach and market are both about a five-minute walk away, yet it stays quiet and peaceful. The resort is in a great spot, with comfortable rooms and a lovely swimming pool.

A lovely garden and pool area, and you can rent scooters here. The people were wonderful too.
