Anna Beach Phu Quoc

The air conditioning worked well and wasn't aimed straight at the bed. The king-sized bed was roomy, but its very firm mattress made sleep uncomfortable. The standard room's shower was already damaged, the water swung between very hot and cold, and the balcony door wouldn't close properly. The hotel is new, but a lot of its finishes and materials seemed poor quality. I stayed four nights. Breakfast was included at the restaurant. The included coffee was weak and diluted, while espresso or coffee cost extra. The food was generally acceptable but very sugary, portions were smaller than at other places I stayed in Vietnam, and the menu was limited. Some dishes, including beef stew, pho, and fried rice, seemed like leftovers rather than freshly cooked. Eggs and sausages were available, but the sausages were dry and hard to chew. Other breakfast menu items cost extra. Service was slow. Staff often talked among themselves instead of clearing tables. Our table, like others, stayed uncleared for a long time while we were still sitting there. Two nights were quite noisy. It seemed a group was gathering on the fifth floor, which disturbed the quiet. Communication was difficult because staff knew little English and I knew little Vietnamese. Google Translates seamed useless. There are plenty of other hotels in the same area. I don't know if they're better, but I'd try my luck elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to friends.

Checkout was the worst part. We paid a 2,500,000 VND deposit, with the rest paid through the agency, but the hotel then told a long story about “lost items” and took 840,000 VND from the deposit. They gave no proper explanation or proof. That felt unprofessional, unethical, and shameless. We also found missing towels, stained pillows, and poor hygiene. Reading the reviews afterward, I saw many guests reporting the same problems, so clearly nothing has changed. The management seems focused on taking as much money as possible from customers. This was one of my worst hotel stays. If the owners don't wake up, the business will lose guests fast; with management and staff like this, disaster seems certain. I'd warn future travelers to avoid this place. Phu Quoc has plenty of good hotels, so don't spend your money or peace of mind here.

I ordered banana pancakes, but they were so dry I couldn't eat them. They might work as breakfast bread with butter and honey, but that's not what I expect from pancakes. When I told the manager they were inedible, she said they wouldn't change the recipe. I keep running into this attitude in Vietnam: no interest in feedback or improving, while still wanting tourism business. There seems to be no concern for repeat customers or more revenue. Western tourists expect attention to detail and some willingness to learn. I wouldn't have minded paying more if the pancakes had been delicious. I'd have come back and raved about them as an influencer.

It was basic. The room was clean, but tiny and smelly. We arrived at 7pm to find the receptionist curled up on a lobby couch. When the elevator stopped working on our second day, we decided to check out early. At least it's close to the beach.
