Golden Topaz Resort

The pool and gardens felt like a lovely little oasis, and we spent many hours in the pool. The kids loved the pool toys. The pool might not have been the cleanest we saw on our trip, though. We stayed several nights in a poolside bungalow with quiet, clean accommodation. Breakfast was impressive for such a small hotel, and both the hotel staff and spa staff were warm and attentive. There are good restaurants within walking distance, and publicly accessible beaches are a 10-15 minute walk away. We took the complimentary shuttle instead. The location is a little removed from most things in Phu Quoc, which is part of its appeal.

There’s no food at the hotel after 10 am, just breakfast, so keep that in mind. Breakfast has lots of options, and you can order drinks through an app all day. The room was clean and spacious, with a lovely brick and wood bathroom. Laundry was quick, the spa was excellent and friendly, and the pool is big with about 14 loungers around it. They’ll take you to the beach by free shuttle if you ask. Great hot water and shower pressure, and good value for money.

It’s a nice, quiet spot on a road with about half a dozen places to eat. Ong Lang “town” is a 15-minute walk around, and Bamboo beach is also 15 minutes on foot. There’s a hotel buggy to Bamboo beach if someone is available. The rooms are big and the pool is nice, with loads of loungers, though the cushions need replacing because they’re not comfortable. Beds are very hard, which seems normal in Vietnam, but they’ll provide a topper if you ask. Towels are small too, also normal.

The family room is large, made by connecting two rooms, and the garden and pool are lovely. It’s a pity the pool and sunbeds aren’t well cared for. Room cleaning wasn’t the best either, mostly just towel changes and water replenishment. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. Breakfast was okay, with two Asian choices, baguettes, toast, eggs, vegetables, and fruit. Laundry costs 40/kg. There are lots of restaurants outside, and Gecko is the best, you have to try it! The beach on the right is a nice 10-minute walk away. Bamboo beach takes longer to reach on the left and isn’t as nice. For the airport, I’d use Grab instead of the hotel taxi.
