The room itself was the biggest problem. It smelled strongly of damp and mold, and the same issue was visible in the bathroom. We managed to reduce the odor by leaving the window open and running the AC on dry mode, though we may simply have gotten used to it. The windows and walls were dirty, the mosquito nets dusty, and the fridge was noisy and not clean. The hand towels were missing until I asked for two. The handheld showerhead didn't work despite our attempts to change the water setting, and the duvet had seen better days. Housekeeping each day changed the shower towels, emptied the bin, made the bed, and left two bottles of water. I wanted to ask for another room, but the hotel appeared fully booked. I can't say whether the other rooms are any better, but this was the worst room I've ever stayed in. We couldn't find another hotel before arriving because everything was booked. I had hoped to change places after seeing other bad reviews start to appear a couple of months after we booked. The location was the reason I chose this hotel: I wanted to be near the jungle and forest. From the main road it's a 10-15 minute walk, with some good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. We arranged a paid airport transfer both ways. Staff were generally friendly, although the language barrier made them hard to understand. Breakfast was okay, with a couple of choices and good coffee, enough to get the day started. The bed was comfortable, storage space was adequate, and they brought a second pillow when I asked. The pool looked clean and pleasant, but we didn't use it. At checkout, the hotel sent me a message asking for a “5 star review” and said the company had been struggling since Covid. I don't think that request is appropriate when the hotel falls short in several ways. Covid doesn't excuse dirty walls and windows or dusty mosquito nets, and a fresh coat of paint shouldn't cost that much. They also required a 500000 Vietnamese dong deposit at check-in. We got it back, but asking for it seemed hardly necessary given the room's condition.

The room was roomy, clean, and comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious, served à la carte, which I really liked. Melica Resort Phu Quoc offers good value for money, with a quiet setting near both the beach and a lively street full of cafes, shops, and restaurants. Several nights, a big group of young people with children stayed there and were very loud, drinking a lot and sometimes carrying on until 5-6 a.m. I know the hotel can't control every inconsiderate guest, but I'd suggest setting quiet hours after 11 p.m. or midnight and enforcing them more firmly, perhaps with fines or security or police if needed. I've seen that work in other hotels. Even with that disruption, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend Melica Resort, especially if you're after a comfortable place in a calm area with easy access to things.

The breakfast was a real treat. We could eat as much as we wanted before heading out for a full day of sightseeing. From the moment we arrived, the staff's warmth and hospitality made us feel very welcome. They were friendly, gave us useful advice, and were willing to help with requests at any hour, even in the middle of the night. Melica Resort has a pool and all the amenities we needed, and everything felt top-notch, with a nice mix of relaxation and luxury. It's away from the big, crowded road, so the setting is peaceful, but still close to the beach and the lively area with restaurants, shops, and pubs. Getting a Grab or taxi was easy too. We had an unforgettable time in Phu Quoc and at the resort. I'd highly recommend Melica Resort to anyone looking for a hotel here.

We'd gladly recommend this resort for its quiet pool and lounging area, privacy, good night atmosphere, and easy access around Phu Quoc and to the night market. There are nearby places to rent a two-wheeler, though some don't ask for an international license and instead offer options like a passport or a 100 USD deposit. People around the area seemed trustworthy. As Indians, we also appreciated having several good Indian restaurants within 2-3 km. The resort is set a little inward from the main road, but the surrounding area has a good night vibe and makes it easy to travel north or south. Renting a two-wheeler saved us a lot of money. The room was cozy and comfortable, and the mirrored glass wall really stood out. The wardrobe was broken at the back, and there were lots of dead flies on the wall, so we just didn't use it. It's a pretty resort, though I feel its location attracts a lot of flies, mosquitoes, and cockroaches, and that could have been taken care of. We stayed six days; the pool water was clean, but we only swam once since there are so many beaches to explore. As vegetarians, we found plenty of good breakfast options and really miss the breakfasts. The hours are strict, but we understand the staff have other work to do too.

We spent six days here with family and it felt like a homely stay. The staff were friendly and supportive, with help and guidance available around the clock if you want to explore on your own. A special thank you to Nhi, Harley, and all the Melica staff for looking after us. My kid and I will miss you guys and Vietnam.
