Muong Thanh Luxury Phu Quoc

Quyen at reception helped us during our stay, and the service was good. We spent 3d2n here and were lucky enough to get upgraded to an executive suite. The rooms were spacious and clean, though Muong Thanh is a hotel chain, so they’re similar to rooms at its other locations and there isn’t much else to add. The location is convenient for a quiet beach nearby, but it’s a long way from the city centre and markets, so you’ll need taxis.

The sea view from our clean, well-kept room was a real plus, and the location was excellent. But service didn’t meet the level I’d expect from a 4-star hotel. We arrived around 11:00 AM and had to wait about 15 minutes with no staff to help with our luggage. They wouldn’t allow early check-in, not even by 30 minutes, and the lobby air conditioning stayed off until 12:30 PM, making the wait uncomfortable. The rooms and location are good, but service needs work.

The place feels like Alice in borderlands. It’s huge, but some areas are empty, and the decor looks nice in spots but tacky in others. You get the feeling the hotel is squeezing out every bit of profit. The hallways and breakfast area have no fans or air conditioning, so you end up soaked in sweat. The rooms aren’t clean, and the carpets are covered in dirty stains. Staff aren’t friendly or helpful and act like you owe them a ton of money. Water pressure in the rooms is really weak. Maybe they’re trying to save costs? One of the rooms we stayed in also lost electricity in the middle of the night.

The rooms were spacious, clean, and well maintained, and I really liked them. The only real drawback was the distance from the main town, about a 15-20 minute ride. The staff were lovely despite the language barrier. At check-in, a kind, soft-spoken woman, probably named Anh, explained everything we needed to know and answered our questions. Another woman, Nhu, if I’m remembering right, helped me when I got stuck at a nearby store because its lift wasn’t working. I contacted the hotel, and she went out of her way to get me out of there. Everyone tried hard to understand our concerns, and the restaurant staff were polite and understanding too. I’d heard some bad reviews from Indian friends, but I’m glad I didn’t let those put me off. I found that being patient, using translation, and listening to what the other person is trying to say makes a difference on both sides. I’d give Muong Thanh Luxury phuQuoc Hotel five stars.
