The Vibe House - Chillout Hostel

The place gives you a real welcome into the family, and the kids are lovely. There are even two dogs and three cats. It’s incredibly cheap, though the basic room could use some improvements and felt inconvenient in a few ways. My first impression was almost of a meditation center. They’ve only recently started running the place, so there’s potential, but the operation needs a bit of work. I’d be fine with them charging a little more. It’s a quiet countryside homestay on a hillside, right in the island’s busiest area, but it isn’t really a social hostel.

Linh, the new owner, is so kind and caring. We only stayed two nights, but the atmosphere was lovely. The rooms aren’t especially modern, though they’re still good, and the common area is a nice spot to relax. The dog is very friendly too. I’d definitely recommend this cute hostel if you want somewhere quieter.

I arrived at the property at 14:00 on 27 February. The room was as shown in the photos, with three beds next to each other, separated by curtains. The last bed was occupied. I didn’t want the middle one because there was no wall or divider, so the person there would have someone’s feet near their head. I chose the bed at the end, showed the staff which one I’d picked, and left my belongings there, including my underwear and hat. They didn’t give me a key. At about 10:30 PM, I found the room locked, though I had no key and these rooms aren’t supposed to be locked. I had to go in through the neighboring room. Another woman was lying in my bed, awake but pretending not to hear me. My belongings, sheets, and pillow had been moved onto the empty middle bed, with the female staff member’s permission. That was completely unacceptable and disrespectful. Nobody should touch someone else’s personal things or change their bed without asking. I don’t feel my belongings are secure here, and I don’t consider this an ethical place. I’ve already canceled tomorrow’s booking. I paid for tonight, but don’t want to stay; since it’s late and there’s nowhere suitable nearby, I’m also asking for a refund for what I paid here. The road is dark and isolated, there’s no hot water in the shower, and loud music from the garden continued late at night and disturbed people trying to sleep. Staff didn’t even seem to know they hadn’t given me a key, and someone moved my things. This place doesn’t meet the standards for hosting guests.

It’s a lovely family-run homestay and hostel, with helpful owners and a peaceful spot tucked into a quiet alley right in the middle of all the Long Beach action. The coffee was some of the best I’ve had in my two months in Vietnam. Thanks to Linh and family for the warm hospitality, delicious food, and sweet memories. I’d highly recommend staying here and would come back if I’m in Phu Quoc again.
