Saigonese Trekking House - Hostel

Please don't support this hostel because of the animal cruelty. I stayed one night and saw two dogs confined in a very small cage with only wooden planks for a floor. They weren't let out at all while I was there, and other guests I spoke to said they'd never seen them taken out either. There were no food or water bowls in the cage. They seemed extremely stressed and reactive, barking whenever someone walked toward the bathroom, which was right beside their cage. At one point they started fighting each other. An earlier review mentioned they had no cushions. The owner's reply said cushions weren't provided because the dogs would destroy them. Of course they might, when animals are kept in such a tiny cage all day. They appeared psychologically overwhelmed by being confined there for so long. If you can't care for animals properly, you shouldn't keep them. I strongly advise others not to support this hostel.

CC was patient and so easy to talk with during the cooking class. We learned to make Bun Cha, and we'll definitely try it at home. It was also probably some of the best bun cha we had in Vietnam. I'd recommend the class!

We loved the calm of the Batiq class with Giàng, a local artist. She was friendly and supportive while helping us learn the new techniques. Back at the house, the soft warm blankets, flower garden, and three resident cats made our stay feel special. The house is very cute, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming.

It felt like home, with a beautiful view and very comfortable beds. The people were welcoming, kind, and helpful, always around with information and suggestions for places to visit. Breakfast is free, and other food is available too. They can arrange bus tickets to destinations from Halong Bay to Ha Giang loop, or help you find a local bus and point you to the right station if you're heading somewhere specific. One of my favorite stays here!
