Sapa Mimosa Hotel is handy for Fansipan, food and grocery shops. The staff are polite, accommodating and speak English well, though the extra 400,000 VND charge for the January 1 holiday may catch guests by surprise. Rooms 305 and 403 were clean and spacious, with comfortable beds, linens and pillows, clean bathrooms, daily toiletries, free water, slippers and a large cabinet. Furnishings include two tables, a sofa and a chair, with plenty of outlets and switches near the bed. The cold/dry AC, hairdryer and water heater with good pressure all worked reliably. There’s an elevator, rooftop deck, trash bins, CCTV, a 24-hour reception, quiet surroundings and good privacy. Smoking is allowed in rooms, hallways or on the rooftop. There are downsides: the rooms look dated and have a noticeable smell. TVs are hard to operate or have no connection. Windows can’t be opened, look only onto neighboring houses, and poor ventilation has led to mold on the walls. Rooms are cleaned daily, but the linens aren’t changed regularly.

From my previous stays, I learned that the promised cleanliness feels like a Hollywood dream. When the town is busy, they may tell you your card was declined and cancel your online reservation, then charge walk-in guests more while denying rooms to people who booked ahead.

Agoda listed checkout at 12 PM, but the property asked us to leave by 10 AM, which added to the inconvenience. We had also booked and paid for a Standard King Size Bed room for two, with a city view, but check-in brought us a room with twin beds and no city view. The owner said the city-view room was “good for 4 pax” and assigned us another room because we were only two. That was very disappointing. The hotel should provide the room type booked, or tell guests beforehand if it won’t. Changing it according to their own criteria felt misleading, and the stay didn’t match what was advertised or paid for.

My room was smaller than the bigger one I booked. When I asked about the difference, the front desk lady brushed me off and went on talking with her friend. The wifi kept dropping, too.

For the price, the hotel was amazing, even though the furniture was a little old. I booked a room with Mountain View and it was worth it. The location is nice, with cafes, massage places and a supermarket nearby. They also let us leave our baggage in the lobby before or after a trip.
