Muong Thanh Grand Tuyen Quang Hotel

The room was beautiful and had a nice view. The staff were very friendly and helpful, though I wouldn’t recommend eating at the hotel. We stayed one night as a stop between Hagiang and Hanoi. I’d recommend the hotel.

My first stay at Muong Thanh was in 2018 with my wife and daughter. We had a very good experience and met a really nice person. These days, whenever I come to Tuyen Quang, I stay at Muong Thanh. The pictures were taken in the same spot in 2018 and 2024.

We stay here all the time, and our four-year-old loves it. It’s very family friendly and, by far, the best hotel in town. The rooms are cool, quiet, clean, and comfortable, the facilities are good, and the staff are friendly and professional. Breakfast has excellent pho in the morning, plus some decent Western choices on the buffet.

We were made to feel unwelcome from the start. Even though the hotel looked empty, the manager on duty refused an early check-in and told us to return around noon or 1pm, or pay extra. When we came back at about 12:30, we were finally checked in, but they assigned us a room that was already occupied, with sandals on the floor and an unmade bed. We had to wait for another room. That room was dated and not very clean, with obvious stains on the carpet. It was meant to be a non-smoking floor, but people were smoking in the hallway, and probably in their rooms too. There was nobody at the restaurant around 7:30pm, so we asked the front desk about ordering food. The manager, on the phone, told staff to add taxes and tips that were already included in the menu price. We gave up and didn't eat there. Breakfast supposedly started at 6:30. At 6:45 the room was packed, with very little food left. The other diners seemed to be local visitors, since the hotel itself appeared to have no guests, and there was no food for us again. We have never been treated this badly or made to feel so unwelcome at a hotel, motel, guesthouse, or Airbnb. Customer service was a complete zero. If you're passing through, stay at a guesthouse instead. You'll likely be treated better and might actually get a meal.
