Casa Maya Hotel

The photos on Booking.com make the hotel look much better than it is. The property felt neglected and worn down, and it was nearly empty while I was there. Staff were pleasant and did their best. Housekeeping came daily, although it wasn’t very thorough. The beach was fairly clean and nice, but excavation was underway during my stay, with a digger constantly going back and forth. The pool was okay, though the old peeling loungers looked uncared for. Wi-Fi worked perfectly. Getting around is costly because the hotel is isolated. Taxis to places such as Vinh Hy seemed to charge two or three times the usual rate. The seafood rice was disappointing too, with hardly any seafood, and cost two to three times what you’d normally pay elsewhere.

I spent about two weeks here working remotely. It’s a quiet, somewhat remote resort, which suited me well for focusing, and there are a few spots to sit and work. Renting a scooter is easy, and there’s plenty to see, including beautiful scenery within an hour’s ride. The place was clean, the Wi-Fi was strong, and service was great. The staff were kind, professional, and exceptionally helpful.

We came as a family, with my Vietnamese wife and our two kids. The rooms are a little dated, and ours had some smell in the bathroom, but the setting is very relaxing, the ocean is clean, and dinner was great. Breakfast is simple but good enough. We’ve stayed at several expensive places on this trip, including Dalat Palace and another 5-star hotel in Phan Rang. This is the one I’d choose to return to for a weekend, and we’re planning to come back for a couple more days.

The sea in front of the hotel is deep, and the pool was unavailable because it was under construction. The room wasn’t good either, but they were still selling the deal. Very disappointing and sad.
