I'm getting an older Viet/Chinese vibe here, and I wasn't expecting much for what I paid. You get the basics: a flat-screen TV, WiFi, shower, lounge chairs, kettle, storage, and so on. The mattress is very firm. As I travel across Vietnam, I'm finding luxury hotels don't matter to me. Location is everything, even if that means staying in a zero-star hotel. This spot has lots of shade and is within walking distance of the famous city center, with other popular streets nearby. Vinh comes alive from sundown until late at night. I find the locals in central Vietnam honest and courteous, and their style suits my personality.

It's fairly clean and quiet, and the staff are helpful. A standard budget room, with a hard mattress and no top sheet. The price is negotiable for a long stay.

The Wi-Fi barely worked, and getting a signal seemed to come down to luck. In the bathroom, the sink drain was stuck, the plug was missing, the door wouldn't lock, and its lower wooden panel was broken. There wasn't a hairdryer either. When I asked, staff gave me one with a huge hole in it, so it wasn't safe to use.

I was charged 400,000 VND when I arrived, even though my Agoda booking was for 290,000 VND. The receptionist called the room VIP, but there wasn't even bottled water in it. A bottle of LaVie downstairs cost 10,000 VND, and although it was in a LaVie bottle, it contained tap water. The room itself was terrible.
