Ngoc Phung Guesthouse

The guesthouse was okay, and the facilities were fine. I had a room on the second floor. I’ve heard people complain about the fourth-floor rooms, but I can’t say anything about those myself. Since it’s a guesthouse, I can’t really judge the interior. A three-bed room for 1.5 million VND during Tet was acceptable. I’m a bit fussy about bathrooms, so that’s one star off, though the owner was attentive and helpful.

The owner was enthusiastic, but we found it annoying. You also have to pay before check-in, which makes it hard to get a refund if the room doesn’t suit you. I booked two rooms and asked for them on the same floor for convenience. At check-in, one was on the third floor and the other on the fourth. The owner said the third-floor water pressure was weak, so she put us in a fourth-floor room with stronger water, and we agreed. That fourth-floor room was 409, an attic room. It was spacious and had two beds, but felt more like a storage room. The bedding was a mess and unusable, there were lots of mosquitoes, the bathroom water pressure was extremely weak, and the A/C didn’t cool the room. So take note if the owner mentions room 409. The third-floor room was okay, though the facilities were old and worn. We didn’t expect much because it was cheap, but the wardrobe had a broken clothes hanger and the bathroom mirror was so high that my shorter friend couldn’t see her reflection. I’d decided to book after seeing good reviews and hearing the owner was enthusiastic, but the stay was terrible.

The landlady is friendly. For a budget price, the rooms are in decent shape and have A/C and hot water. Seems like a good affordable option for students.

The owner is lovely and attentive. Prices are affordable and it’s a good fit if you’re not too picky. I’ll definitely come back.
