Quyen's Homestay

We booked a room for two through Agoda over the holiday for 400k VND a night, which was quite cheap. Our stay was fine until checkout got close. The owner asked when we’d be leaving so she could get the room ready for the next guests. I said 11 am, though I usually check out at 10. Then at 9 am on checkout morning, she knocked and told us to take our belongings downstairs so she could prepare the room. I was confused. We’re moving here to live and work and have a lot of stuff, and since we don’t know Vung Tau yet, we hadn’t found a rental. We were staying at this homestay for three days to look around and find a monthly place. I disagreed and repeated that I’d check out at 11 and move everything then. The owner made it seem like she was kicking us out. It was really unlucky to book here. So strange.

The staff were enthusiastic, and they lent us a pair of slippers. But the small room I paid 170k/night for was really tiny, like a larger room split off by a wall. There was nowhere to hang clothes, and I couldn’t even put my suitcase on the floor. It wasn’t clean either, since I saw hair on the sink when I came in. It had both a fan and air conditioner. This is in the suburbs, so it’s quite far from the beaches and restaurants.
