Sava’ii was gorgeous, and the sunsets were stunning. We could jump into the water from the balcony at high tide, or use the ladder to snorkel, and there was a deck to jump from too. We were the only guests, with just a cute cat visiting each day, plus turtles and fish. It felt simple and remote, and so peaceful. We stayed in March 2020, a week before the pandemic changed everything, and I’m glad we got that holiday in. The room was run down and mouldy, the door didn’t open or close properly, and there were bugs. That was what I expected for the price, since I wanted a rustic, cheap stay on a beautiful lagoon. The food wasn’t amazing, but I wasn’t expecting five-star dining. A few staff were around, and although some didn’t understand English, one woman often helped translate. The wharf and market were very close by, which was handy. I hope I can come back one day. Stay here if you can enjoy it with the right mindset. If you’re a bit “precious”, stay somewhere else.

The hotel was in an extremely convenient location, but the room lacked basic things and didn’t feel safe. It was so mouldy that we transferred to another hotel, and I’d strongly advise people not to stay at Lusia's Lagoon Chalets. The room needed a lot of cleaning. Mould covered the wooden bed frames, lamp, walls, and even the fridge, which was also dirty and had lots of dirt and rust along the bottom of its door. There was no shower curtain to stop water escaping, no hand soap or any soap, and the curtain rods were loose and not properly attached. There were too many health and safety problems. This was by far my worst hotel experience, and if I could rate it below the scale, I would.

The staff are truly lovely. I can’t speak to the garden accommodation, but the shared fales are really basic and need a lot of work. I wanted to stay over the water, but I wouldn’t do that again. The shared bathroom was awful, if you can even call it that. There’s one sink outside, and the toilets and showers are in a tin hut with nowhere to hang a towel. The units with their own bathrooms looked quite nice. Unless money is really tight, I’d choose one of those.

We were asked for our passport details when we arrived, plus a 20 tala key deposit that was returned at checkout. No other place we stayed in Samoa did that, and we found it unusual since this was the most basic place we stayed. The food was surprisingly good, and it was close to the ferry, which was what we needed. The room was tired and had no mosquito net. The lagoon was clean, but the “pool” was full of debris and plastic, so we couldn’t swim in it.

The place was really nice and cheap to stay at, and my family and I had good fun with the facilities. The menu needs more choices, with nice tropical food instead of the same boring options, and the prices felt too high for what we got on the plate. Staff need more training in customer care. I was very happy with the young girl who gave me her flower, kept cleaning my room, and helped with anything I needed.
