The two women who looked after us were friendly, respectful, and very nice. We chose this hotel because it was close to our Family Reunion venue, and that turned out to be a huge, expensive mistake. I told the women to ask the owner to hire professional cleaners and treat the place for bugs, especially flies and cockroaches. There were dead and live insects everywhere, so I bought fly spray myself. The hotel was disgustingly dirty, with thick dust on the windows, floors, and cupboards. The couches smelled and were filthy, and the dishes and utensils were sticky and dirty on the drying racks. My uncle was the only guest when we joined him two days later, which wasn't surprising. We had the whole hotel to ourselves for three days. No other guests arrived before we left the morning after we were robbed of jewelry, money, an iPhone, and phones.

The room was okay, with air conditioning and good shower pressure. The hotel was quiet, probably because there weren't many guests. I guess you have to request towels, toiletries, and toilet paper. I was handed two bottles of water, but one looked opened and possibly already drunk from. I was also able to leave the reception staff a tip for the change I never got back.

The villa's rooms were very spacious, though the bathroom was small. My parents had a two-bedroom apartment with lots of space and a lovely large bathroom. What spoiled the stay was a rodent in the villa roof. We noticed it a couple of nights in, then told the staff at checkout, expecting some compensation. They laughed and said we should have told them sooner. We weren't sure it was really a rodent until we found chewed holes in my nephew's nappies and other chewed-up things around the villa. We paid about $900 NZD for four nights, and I don't think it was worth that.

If you want your money taken, to be lied to and laughed at, and then ignored, try this place. This happened in 2016. There are plenty of good hotels in Samoa, just not this one. I paid a deposit in person several months ahead to hold a date for my event, because I didn't want to lose it. I asked for the booking details and a receipt. They said the printer was broken and promised to send a hard copy once it was working. When I arrived in Samoa, I was told my date hadn't been booked. The woman at reception denied speaking or communicating with me and giggled with the other staff. I had proof of our conversation, but still got no apology. Luckily, I had time to find another venue.

If you just need a bed and the room amenities, this place may work for you. Getting good service was difficult. Half the staff were wonderful and friendly, while the others seemed completely out of it. Room cleaning happened only sometimes, and the water stopped working overnight on both my first and second nights. Maybe they were short-staffed? Laundry cost $5 Samoan Tala per item, which is very expensive.
