The sea here is gorgeous, clear water over white sand, shallow enough for a good snorkel. That was the best part of the visit. We paid 20 Tala to enter and asked whether there would be any other charges. After driving 3.2km down a very rough beach road, we reached a deserted-looking place with run-down fales. There was nobody else around, and it felt almost ghostly. About 20 minutes in, a local came over and said we owed him 50 Tala to be on the beach. When we explained we had already paid, he said that first fee only covered coming in to look around. We paid the extra, stayed another 10 minutes, then left. It left us disappointed and soured the whole experience. We should have paid attention to other reviews describing this same situation, so that's on us. The beach is stunning, but the place is badly run down and poorly managed. Sadly, this was our only bad experience in wonderful Samoa, where everyone else we met was hospitable, kind, and generous. Avoid it if you can. Lalomanu is a better and safer option.

We got there late in the afternoon, and the family were still very accommodating. Dinner was a lovely coconut fish meal, followed by a delicious breakfast the next day. The fales sit on a beautiful, secluded beach. The road down is rough, but manageable if you go slowly. The people here are genuine and so nice. Thank you to everyone at Matareva, I can't recommend you enough.

The quiet, sheltered bay and its lovely beach were a real draw, with great views and plenty of photo spots. The beach and the clean fales were well kept, too. It takes a good 10 minutes along the track to get down there. It was disappointing to find the kitchen closed. We saw people who had hoped to stay overnight turn around because they couldn't get food.

The beach itself is lovely, but getting there means paying to use a really bumpy road. If you're not staying at the resort, there's another charge just to use the beach. We had hoped to stay, but the place wasn't open. It looked like a deserted resort that's slowly falling apart, and the people we encountered weren't friendly or helpful. The facilities feel dated, and the road is terrible.

The family here were so kind. We arrived around 8 pm after a full day of travel, just as the owner was heading home. The lady kindly drove back, helped us set up our fale with her daughters, and even made us a tasty dinner though it was late and we hadn't asked for anything. That really made my day. We appreciated her warmth and understanding, especially after meeting some fale owners who weren't nearly as nice. The place is magical and the fale price is reasonable, so I can recommend it. The road is a little out of the way, and we had to pay 10 tala before entering it. The man who charged us owned the road to this beautiful property, though I think that arrangement could be explained better in future.
