The cottage was clean and spacious, and the hosts were very friendly. With its excellent location, this was the best holiday I’ve had in years.

Staying in a renovated fisherman’s cottage was a wonderful experience. Bring your own towels, and remember to bring your own data or Wi-Fi.

We were warmly welcomed, even though we showed up as last-minute walk-ins. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped, and the hosts were obliging and friendly. It keeps its authentic character while being beautifully modernised, with a private lounge and braai area right by the sea. I’d highly recommend it and look forward to coming back soon.

I really enjoyed the warm, cosy cottage. It has plenty of character, and I value having a clean, private and secure place to sleep more than extra frills. The view of the sea from the braai area is breathtaking. The cottage sits within the Heritage Site, among beautiful buildings overlooking the sea, and the Arniston Hotel is an easy walk away. We often ate at its restaurant. There’s a separate braai area on the other side of the property, but getting to the beach from there is difficult. It’s on a steep hill, and climbing down doesn’t feel safe. Our only photo was taken through the glass door; it shows the braai room and reflects the building behind us. The main-floor bedroom has a firm mattress and comfortable bedding. The bathroom is spacious, with an oversized shower and good water pressure, though there’s no bath. A bedside fan was handy on warm evenings. Upstairs, there are two single beds, but the roof is very low, the stairs are steep and there’s no toilet up there. I can’t imagine adults using those beds, and I wouldn’t let my nine-year-old sleep upstairs. The cottage has a TV with DSTV. Sushi, the resident dog, was a pleasure to have around and was always happy to come for a snack. Although the host lives in the attached cottage, privacy wasn’t an issue; I didn’t see them after they handed over the keys. I parked just outside the front door and had no security concerns. We hope to return soon.

We stayed in Kassiesbaai, part of the fishing community, and woke each day to stunning sea views and the sunrise. I’d highly recommend walking in either direction, to the Baken, where the Arniston wreck occurred, or to the cave at Waenhuiskrans and on to the fish traps.
