Music carried on around the place until 11 p.m., so I couldn’t sleep. I also wouldn’t recommend it to anyone because the room didn’t have the shower and toilet inside as advertised. I couldn’t find the entrance at first and had to call. When I asked reception to move me to an open room with the facilities, the person said the bookings worker was off after 4 p.m. and it was my problem. I was told I’d have to book another room online.

The only good parts were the warm water and being close to everything. The dorm rooms were horrible, with no ventilation and mould covering the bathroom walls. The windows couldn’t be opened because the blinds were very dirty and smelled bad. Two fans just pushed the same dirty air around, and the air conditioner leaked until water covered our whole floor. Nobody warned us, and my bags got wet. I wouldn’t recommend Ballito Backpackers. The place felt unsafe, and the mould seemed like a serious health risk. If health inspectors came in, I think they’d close it down. Don’t go to Ballito Backpackers!

The bathroom was actually on the other side of the hotel, despite the way the ad made it sound like it was inside the room. It was extremely dirty too. The rooms were bad, and the service was terrible. Such a horrible experience. Go at your own risk!

We loved our stay and enjoyed every day. It felt like a home away from home, with a great view, friendly staff, and quality service. We’ll definitely visit again!

For a short stay, the quiet, simple private room was fine. The bed was comfortable, and it had the basics: a private bathroom, kettle, and microwave. The WiFi didn’t work, and keep in mind there’s a R500 breakage fee.
