SUN1 Kimberley

For the price we paid, it’s worth every cent. The room was clean and fresh, and the staff were very friendly. The bathrooms are a bit dodgy, though.

They don’t provide food or water, and the Wi-Fi isn’t secured, which feels like a security risk. The room wasn’t cleaned after I left for the day, and they only started cleaning at around 16:00. The toilet and shower share one small space, less than 2 square metres.

It used to be called Formula1 and was tidy and comfortable for a night or two. These days, though, it feels run down. The rooms were filthy and smelled bad, and the beds had stains. The bathroom reeked of urine, while the sink was bulging and discolored. You'd expect basic cleanliness with so many people staying there, but the conditions were awful. The staff seemed willing to smile and help only if you didn't raise the state of the place. It feels as if the whole Northern Cape province is in a bad way.

I was driving a bus and there wasn't room to park it, so I had to leave it by the hospital. The room had a bunk bed, plastic bathroom walls, and a small TV with just three boring channels.
