Don’t be fooled by the ratings. We stayed in filth, and the rating seems extremely biased by LekkaSlaap’s rating system. The place was infested with ants. They need lawn and pest specialists to deal with it. Maybe this place used to be good, but my goodness. I make a point of taking my shoes off indoors, and after five minutes of walking around, the bottoms of my feet were black. The crockery wasn’t clean, there were spider webs on the windows, and the bathroom floor felt like lotion had been spread all over it. I was too scared to try the shower. The grounds look great, but with the infestation you can’t use anything. Behind and under the beds there were dead bugs and dust for days. The only thing going for the place is the kind staff. Wake up!

The room was spacious and not bad, though the shower in Room 7 was terrible and really needs fixing. The staff gave us a warm, friendly welcome, and both dinner and breakfast were amazing. Great service overall.

My colleagues and I have stayed at Matoppo Inn several times while in Beaufort West for work, and we’ve always enjoyed our visits. The central location makes it easy to walk to the town’s historical landmarks and museums, and the guest house itself has a rich history as one of the earliest establishments in town. After the day, the lush gardens are a peaceful place to unwind, or you can relax in a comfortable room with all the essentials. Dinner is delicious, the service is amazing, and we especially appreciate how Landi goes the extra mile. We’d gladly return, and I recommend staying here.
